A Bear-y Creative Affair

A Bear-y Creative Affair

About this time last year we were in the midst of developing one of our most personal and unique wedding themes. When we first sat down to talk with this couple about their relationship, we found a reoccurrence throughout their stories- teddy bears!

Yes, I know many of you are having flashes of streamers and balloons-can’t lie, so did we.  So how do you take teddy bears and turn it into a stunningly elegant affair? Well, we started with the facts:

Fact #1: Bears live in the forest.

Fact #2: Bears have a thick furry coat, commonly black or brown.

Fact #3: Bears like honey, nuts and berries.

Their November date provided a perfect setting for a color pallet of chocolate brown and honey gold.  We carried these colors over into their linens incorporating textures of furry velvets and tree barky crinkles.  Their floral designer, Paul Bolsinger, created a forest atmosphere with a touch of elegance.  Gold branches, hypericum berries, and red and orange accent flowers embellished with hanging crystals were a show stopper…and the smallest details (tiny bumble bees attached to the branches) had the guests talking all night!

And did we ever have fun with the sweets table! Teddy grahams, honey sticks, assorted nuts and other candies in their colors sat arranged on a gold threaded linen, reminiscent of a beehive.  The woodsy atmosphere was refined by various lighting gobos, completing the feeling of being in a moonlit forest. Small details finished off the event; a James Bond Bear ice luge and signature drinks, a tree trunk cake stand carved with their monogram, and personal jars of honey at each guests plate.

The most memorable weddings are the ones that celebrate the couple and what is unique to their relationship.  And the most exciting weddings to plan are ones where we take the simplest idea and develop it into an abstract, entertaining the guests and honoring your union! What special memories do you want to incorporate into your day?
